Troubleshooting a NovaStar-driven LED wall
NovaStar powers most installed LED walls: MCTRL and VX controllers, COEX processors, A-series and MRV receiving cards, NovaLCT, VMP and ViPlex software. Here are the failures we see most often at LED Doctor, and the right way to approach them.
NovaLCT does not detect the controller
- Plug USB directly, no hub, and change the cable: cause number one.
- Run NovaLCT as administrator and check Windows firewall is not blocking it.
- Check the controller's USB driver in Device Manager.
- On a network connection, put the PC in the same IP range as the controller.
- Check versions: an old NovaLCT ignores recent controllers — and a COEX is not driven by NovaLCT but by VMP.
Reflexes specific to the NovaStar ecosystem
Smart Settings rebuilds a module configuration step by step: powerful, but only on a wall out of operation, with the configuration backed up first.
Calibration coefficients are managed in Manage Coefficients: back up before any card or module work, reload after.
If the receiving card firmware does not support the module's chip, values read back in NovaLCT are unreliable: update the firmware first, out of operation.
Redundancy (backup data loop) is checked in Detect Communication Status: an active backup path means there is no margin left — fix the main path without waiting.
For remote monitoring, VNNOX Care reports alarms from connected screens: useful for a fleet, essential for an isolated façade screen.

NovaLCT or VMP: which one?
NovaLCT drives MCTRL and VX controllers and classic receiving cards. COEX processors (MX40 Pro, MX2000 Pro…) are driven by VMP. Using the wrong tool makes healthy hardware look broken.
Can I update firmware myself?
Technically yes, but never on a wall in operation or right before an event, and always with configuration and coefficients backed up. An interrupted flash can leave a card mute.
Is the built-in diagnostic worth using?
Detect Communication Status and NovaLCT monitoring locate chain breaks and mute cards in seconds: the first reflex before touching any cabling.
Does Lédia know the NovaLCT menus?
Yes: Lédia guides you step by step through NovaLCT, VMP and ViPlex, naming exact menus, and knows when an operation must wait until the wall is out of service.
